At the start of freshman year, I did not think that I was going to be involved in Greek Life. I didn’t really understand the appeal of it, and I thought it was a waste of time and money. However, the one thing that changed my mind was the people I met who are involved in Greek Life. The people that I have met that are involved in Greek Life, and specifically in Delta Omega, truly understand the lyrics from one of my favorite artists, Ben Rector, “Life is not the mountain tops; it’s the walking in between, and I like you walking next to me.”

The first prospective that I attended for Delta Omega drastically exceeded my expectations. I quickly realized that I was extremely comfortable with the ladies in Delta Omega. I didn’t feel out of place at all. This same feeling continued to wash over me at every rush event I attended for Delta Omega. I quickly realized that the reason I felt comfortable was because of the people in those rooms. I felt like I could be unapologetically me around them, and that was the most freeing feeling.

In the short amount of time that I have had in Delta Omega, I have gained so many life-giving friendships and strengthened previous ones. I have full confidence that those friendships will last a lifetime. The ladies of Delta Omega have shown me their kindness. They have accepted me when I’m at my lowest of lows and celebrated with me at my highest of highs. They reflect God’s love to me in the words that they speak and the acts of selflessness they show me and others every single day.

I have come to realize that being involved in Greek Life isn’t all about formals, singarama, or philanthropy events. The most life changing thing about being involved in Greek Life is the friendships you gain. It is the opportunities you get to connect with those who might be extremely different from you or with an upperclassman who becomes an incredible mentor to you. Greek Life has created a space for me to partake in some incredible life changing friendships! It has allowed me to learn what it means to pour myself out for the sake of others, but it has also allowed me to learn what it means to receive that kind of love. The relationships I have gained through Delta Omega are more than I could’ve ever dreamed of.
